If you work with git worktrees, you know the pain: multiple checkouts of the same repository, each with their own Claude Code or Codex sessions. Your Contextify tab bar fills up with projects that look identical until you squint at the branch names.
The latest Contextify update solves this with automatic tab grouping. Projects from the same git repository are now grouped together with matching colors and clear visual boundaries. No configuration required.
What's New
- Automatic worktree detection - Contextify identifies projects that share a git origin and groups them together automatically (DMG version only)
- Color-coded groups - Each group gets a distinct background color, making it easy to identify related projects at a glance
- Group reordering - Move entire groups via context menu or keyboard shortcuts (Cmd+Shift+Ctrl+[ / ])
- Customization - Change group colors and rename groups through the context menu
- Manual grouping - Create custom groups for projects that aren't worktrees but belong together logically
Note: Automatic worktree detection requires filesystem access to read git configuration, which is only available in the DMG version. The App Store version includes full support for manual grouping, letting you organize projects into color-coded groups yourself.
For Power Users
Full keyboard navigation is available. Navigate between groups, reorder them, and manage membership without touching the mouse. Right-click any tab to access group options including color selection and renaming.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Cmd+Shift+Ctrl+[ - Move group left
- Cmd+Shift+Ctrl+] - Move group right
Tab grouping works alongside all existing features. Your timeline, search, and Total Recall functionality remain unchanged. Groups persist across app restarts, so your organization stays in place.
