Every plan runs the same Mac app. The difference is where your history lives and what it unlocks.

Frequently asked questions
Yes, three ways, all free for personal use:
Local: the full macOS app and CLI on one Mac, no account. Real-time timeline, full-text search, and Apple Intelligence summaries, all running locally.
Cloud Free: adds Contextify-operated Cloud Sync across two Macs, with access to the most recent 60 days of cloud history when you sign in with a magic link.
Personal Self-Hosted: run your own Contextify Cloud server under the FSL terms.
For work use, Cloud Pro ($12/month) adds unlimited hosted devices, full hosted history, and a commercial-use license.
Local is the app running entirely on your Mac, no account. Cloud Free is the same app plus Cloud Sync across 2 Macs; Cloud Free is intended for access to the most recent 60 days of cloud history (account required, magic-link sign-in). Cloud Pro ($12/month) lifts the device cap, makes cloud history available and searchable without the Cloud Free 60-day limit while the subscription remains active, and includes the commercial-use license. All three use the same Mac app.
Local and Cloud Free are licensed for personal use. For commercial use, pick the option that matches how you run it. Local Commercial licenses commercial use of the local app on your Mac. Cloud Pro includes a commercial-use license for hosted solo use, and Cloud Team extends it across a multi-user workspace. Personal Self-Hosted may be used for internal organizational use under the FSL terms, but it does not grant the right to offer Contextify Cloud, or substantially similar functionality, as a competing commercial product or service. For self-hosted commercial team use, see Self-Hosted Pro.
Yes, and you won't pay twice. If you start with Local Commercial and later move to Cloud Pro or Cloud Team, we'll credit your Local Commercial purchase toward it. Email us when you're ready to switch and we'll apply it.
Yes, for internal use within your organization. Personal Self-Hosted is published under the Functional Source License, Version 1.1, Apache 2.0 Future License (FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0). The license permits use for any Permitted Purpose under FSL, including internal team use, evaluation, and professional services connected to your compliant use. What FSL does NOT permit is Competing Use: offering Contextify Cloud, or substantially similar functionality, to your customers as a commercial product or service. Two years after each release, FSL automatically converts that release to the Apache License 2.0, lifting the FSL Competing Use restriction on that specific release (Apache 2.0 license terms still apply). For uses outside FSL's permitted-purpose boundary (such as a commercial competing service), contact us about a commercial arrangement. The Cloud Pro plan is the hosted commercial option and does not grant separate self-hosted commercial rights.
Cloud Sync is always opt-in. In Local mode, nothing leaves your machine. When you sign in for Cloud Free or Cloud Pro, your transcript data is uploaded to Contextify Cloud so you can sync and search across devices. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and tenant-isolated. Cloud Free is intended for access to the most recent 60 days of cloud history; Cloud Pro makes cloud history available and searchable without the Cloud Free 60-day limit while the subscription remains active. You can disable Cloud Sync at any time, and your cloud data will be deleted from our servers. Your local data is never touched.
All paid plans include a 14-day free trial, no credit card required, with full access to every feature. Start your trial, and if you decide not to continue, your account reverts to the Free plan and your local data is unaffected.
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. When upgrading, you get immediate access to new features. When downgrading, you keep access until the end of your current billing period. Your local database is never affected by plan changes.
Yes. Annual billing saves you 17-20% compared to monthly. Local Commercial is $77/seat/year ($6.42/month effective). Cloud Pro is $120/year ($10/month effective). Cloud Team is $144/seat/year ($12/seat/month effective). All annual plans include the same 14-day free trial.
It's per person, not per machine. One license covers you on every Mac and Linux machine you use, as long as you're the only one using it. For a team, buy a license for each person.
